Read about Jessica’s latest work, Our Hair Feels Like Flower Petals. The beginning stages were first presented in collaboration between Dance Canvas & Atlanta Contemporary Museum. Jessica then received an Idea Capital Grant to continue her research to present an evening length work at The Movement Lab.


Jessica Bertram is a Colorado-based movement artist driven by storytelling, research, and ultimately, play. As a native of Huntsville, Alabama, she began dancing at the age of 3 at the North Alabama Dance Center. She continued her training at Emory University and graduated in 2017 with a BA in Dance & Movement Studies and a BS in Anthropology & Human Biology. She is an alumna of the American Dance Festival summer and winter intensive. Her choreographic and solo work has been performed and awarded at the American College Dance Association, Emory University, Inman Park Festival, 7Stages Theatre, Dance Canvas 2019 Choreographers Initiative, Atlanta Dance Collective's FEMMEfest, the Atlanta Contemporary Museum, and the staibdance Summer Intensive in Sorrento, Italy. 

A driven member of Atlanta’s dance community, Jessica has had the opportunity to perform with staibdance, Emily Cargill + Dancers, ImmerseATL, Julio Medina, ALA Dance, Helen Hale, Kristel Tedesco, Dana Sokolowski, Lindsay Renea, the Mediums Collective, and Catellier Dance Projects. She has danced in film productions as well. Dedicated to her passion for the arts, Jessica has worked for multiple years as a teaching artist with dance and creative youth development organization, Moving In The Spirit. She also works with the National Black Arts Festival (NBAF), formerly as their Data and Communications Specialist, but presently as the Assistant Director of the Move/Dance! Program. Jessica is presently dancing for Helen Hale and Porter Grubbs, and recently showed work at two highly sought after festivals in the Atlanta area. She is a recent recipient of an Idea Capital Grant.

Jessica is pursuing her Masters in Fine Arts at University of Colorado, Boulder.
